Serves as Director of Development - Principal Gift Project Management. Promotes and ensures forward momentum of the University's principal gifts program initiatives with a strategic plan to focus on programming that expands and diversifies our base of principal gift prospects and donors. Creates systems to better support collaboration and effective management of the University's top prospects. Provides leadership in the development of a collaborative team approach to better facilitate a coordinated strategy of engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for all principal gift level prospects and donors. Performs other duties as assigned.
25% - Essential - Principal Gift Project Management: Serves as the Project Manager for University's principal gifts program. Coordinates and collaborates on of all principal gift operations including prospect assignment, proposal creation and development to position Clemson for strategic engagement with high-level constituents in order to secure more gifts at the 7-, 8- and 9- figure level for the University. Executes and monitors the progress of short and long-term strategies for principal gift prospects that may reach beyond a single gift, cross disciplines, and require complex gift agreements. Develops and maintains an extensive knowledge of Clemson University's areas of excellence and fully digests the ClemsonForward plan to better articulate the University's mission, value proposition, and strategic initiatives, along with a deep understanding of the priorities for each of the colleges. Creates and manages systems to ensure excellent coordination of all principal gift related activities.
25% - Essential - Strategic Donor/Prospect Engagement: Creates, writes and develops comprehensive white papers and proposals to present to principal gift prospects. Works in concert with various faculty members and program area champions, along with the University and DAR Marketing units, to produce outstanding materials. Collaborates with the senior fundraisers to execute specialized engagement, cultivation and solicitation strategies for prospects/donors in the University's principal gifts portfolio. Monitors and executes preparation (including various supporting materials reflective of University priorities) and all next steps before and after the senior fundraisers' and institutional leaders' donor visits. Manages and maintains, in collaboration with relevant teams, complicated donor giving histories to ensure effective engagement with University principal gifts donors. Manages a tailored approach to acknowledgments and stewardship for each principal gift donor, working with colleagues in donor relations and communications.
25% - Essential - Strategic Planning and Operations: Partners with the senior leadership to promote principal gift relationship development, working closely with University leaders to facilitate and coordinate "Big Idea" discussions and opportunities. Convenes and coordinates internal principal gift strategy sessions with development officers and academic leaders to create clarity, consensus, and alignment among key stakeholders. Facilitates strategic bi-monthly meetings for the Principal Gifts Committee. Disseminates action items and track progress on a regular basis through a deliberate review of the Principal Gift team portfolio. Provides regular analysis of current activities and partner with prospect research team to continue to build and prioritize the principal gifts list of prospects. Plans, produces, and delivers concise and highly customized and sophisticated communications, including proposals, acknowledgements, program budgets, gift summaries and detailed reports.
25% - Essential - Collaboration and Leadership: Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure fundraising strategy and leadership gift opportunities remain closely aligned with internal operations and priorities. Partners with the senior fundraisers, develops high-level briefings for donor meetings and events with University leaders (President, Provost, Deans), faculty, and university volunteer leaders; briefings represent a comprehensive strategy for our principal gifts prospects and donors and, in sum, cover an extensive range of activities and ideas spanning Clemson's multiple programs. Teams up with the gift management team to create, manage and execute all principal gift agreements in concert with all stakeholders. Manages complex gift terms and associated paperwork and activities related to closing 7-, 8- and 9-figure commitments.
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five or more years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising for higher education or related experience in a complex environment. Preferred: Advanced degree or professional certification
