General Summary: Given broad autonomy directs and coordinates district functions to foster the overall excellence of schools and school leadership. Monitors school progress and provides direction at the school and district level for improvement and corrective actions. Develops and implements programs for leadership development and assists the superintendent in the supervision and evaluation of principals. Provides direction to schools and district offices to ensure that district resources are aligned to district and school-level strategic objectives and directly supervises the Executive Director of Instruction, Title I, Special Services, and school nurses. Works directly with the superintendent to implement the District’s strategic planning process, including development of school-level goals and objectives for continuous improvement and school excellence.
Provides supervision, leadership development opportunities and guidance to principals to ensure that schools make continuous improvement toward overall school excellence
Provides support and guidance to school principals for school success
Conducts school observations and provides feedback for continuous improvement
Monitors school progress toward school and district goals and objectives
Advises principals upon request or as needed for problem solving
Develops and implements a district leadership development plan
Ensures that school leaders know and understand state and federal accountability requirements
Coordinates the performance evaluations of principals
Develops principal improvement plans as needed
Serves as a liaison between the principals and superintendent
Serves occasionally as a liaison between principals and other departments
Supports schools in the development of plans for overall school quality and continuous improvement of teaching and learning by working with principals to identify specific objectives based on a variety of school data and developing a work plan around those objectives
Provides advice and assistance to school leaders in student, personnel, and incident matters that require special administrative action
Coordinates with other offices to maximize district support for school excellence and to provide specialized technical assistance, support and interventions to struggling schools
Assists the superintendent in the development and updates to the district strategic plan
Directly supervises the Executive Director of Instruction, Special Services Department, Title I and School Nurses
Assists other district administrators as needed to respond to administrative problems, needs, requests, issues, etc.
Assists the superintendent in maintaining and updating board policies
Serves in an advisory capacity as a member of the superintendent’s executive team and cabinet
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in education leadership or administration and a minimum of 7 years of school, district, or state administrative experience with at least 3 years of experience as a principal or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Must possess a valid teaching certificate.
Extensive knowledge of leadership characteristics, practices, and development. Extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies, procedures, and systems. Sound understanding of education data, data analysis, and data use. Knowledge of school operations and organization. Knowledge of planning processes and the development, planning, organization, implementation and management of programs and practices designed to meet educational goals, objectives, and requirements. Knowledge of how to keep abreast of school quality indicators and best practices for ensuring overall school excellence.
