The Deputy Superintendent is the District's strategic implementation and design leader, responsible for identifying and scaling transformative ideas and strategies that address positive student outcomes throughout the entire District. The Deputy Superintendent leads and supervises various departments to guarantee collaboration/cohesion between schools and academics.
The Deputy Superintendent of Schools:
in collaboration with the Superintendent of Schools and Cabinet, is responsible for setting the vision, direction, and strategies for innovative instructional and school models that foster learning and student growth for all CCSD students, with a laser focus on supporting the learning of students in high poverty settings;
will collect, analyze, and use multiple sources of data, including research related to the design and implementation of transformative efforts, to guide continuous improvement of schools and ensure the implementation of the applicable goals of the district's Strategic Education Plan;
will help steer the central office towards a new service orientation, positioning schools as the primary unit of change and providing central office supports to enable continuous improvement;
will help lead the executive team to deliver on the district's strategic goals and priorities by aligning CCSD programs and resources and ensuring that there is a return on the investment;
will be responsible for compliance activities with Federal and State requirements;
will serve as acting Superintendent of Schools in the absence of the Superintendent of Schools;
will oversee the strategic direction for all school leadership, academics, and academic achievement of students;
will attend Board and District meetings;
will serve as Liaison for Constituent District Board;
will work with various community groups and ad hoc committees;
will serve as a team member on the Learning Services Leadership team;
will participate in professional networks;
will keep abreast of best practices and national research; and
will perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Eight (8)+ years successful experience as a principal or district-level administrative leader
Experience working collaboratively across key departments of a school district
Experience as a district level administrator, supervising principals preferred
Current South Carolina Administration Certification (Elementary Principal/Supervisor, Secondary Principal/Supervisor, and or Superintendent), or eligible for reciprocity
Demonstrated leadership skills
Ability to problem solve, think critically and manage conflicts
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to collect, analyze and use multiple sources of data
Strong organizational, communication, strategic planning, and interpersonal skills
Strong interest in education and driving improvement in student achievement
