SUMMARY:
Under limited direction, conducts the development and supervision of instructional programs, academic operations, staff development, curriculum planning, and other related functions. Assists the Superintendent in the development of educational philosophy, long term strategic planning, and policies. Provides District-wide leadership for all instructional programs and educational improvements as required by federal, state, and local mandates, and serves on the superintendent’s senior staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs, plans, coordinates, and implements a comprehensive instructional and technology services program for the District in support of teaching and learning goals and educational needs. Provides assistance to the Superintendent as needed for long term academic planning, implementation, and development of policies and procedures for the District.
- Guides the integration of technology into the District's Instructional Program.
- Directs academic operations and administration of instructional services staff.
- Submits periodic reports to the superintendent on school problems and developments, along with planned courses of action.
- Provides the Superintendent input on district staff evaluations to include Executive Directors and Principals.
- Interprets to the public the instructional programs of the Aiken County Public Schools.
- Develops and establishes performance standards, policies and procedures for assigned functions.
- Organizes, prepares, and presents such reports to the School Board and other groups which represent the District’s position, status and/or future plans.
- Coordinates and directs the activities associated with school accountability and renewal processes, and directs technical assistance activities for school improvement, and coordinates strategic planning.
- Coordinates and supervises activities associated with curriculum development and design, and instructional practice and evaluation.
- Supervises student assessment and test data analysis programs.
- Provides leadership in facilitating curriculum improvement.
- Recommends instructional staffing formula (allocation).
- Coordinates and monitors the District instructional services budget.
- Interprets and formulates academic policy and procedures and provides related advice to administrators, employees and staff; recommends new or revised policies and/or procedures as warranted.
- Serves in an advisory capacity to assist other District administrators as needed to respond to instructional related problems, needs, requests, issues, etc.
- Supervises alternative education programs & Adult Education.
- Oversees student assignments, including transfer and out of zone requests.
- Receives and reviews various records and documents such as budget information, various reports, schedules, work orders, regulations, curriculum plans, proposals, letters of correspondence, publications, etc.
- Keeps abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to personnel and community relations functions.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must hold a Master’s Degree, Doctorate Degree is Preferred, Five Years of successful experience as a principal and/or district level administrator.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid South Carolina Teaching License in one of the following areas:
Elementary Principal (Tier 1 or Tier 2)
Elementary Supervisor
Secondary Principal (Tier 1 or Tier 2)
Secondary Supervisor
Superintendent
