The Horry County Board of Education seeks an outstanding educational leader to serve as Superintendent of its premier, world-class school system of approximately 48,000 students and over 6,400 employees. Horry County Schools (HCS) is the third-largest school district in South Carolina. The anticipated start date for the new superintendent will be on or before July 1, 2025.

HCS is made up of 56 schools within nine attendance areas: Aynor, Carolina Forest, Conway, Green Sea Floyds, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Socastee, and St. James.
HCS is made up of 28 primary/elementary schools, 13 middle schools, 11 high schools, 2 academies, 1 alternative school, and 4 charter schools.
Home to 15 National Blue Ribbon schools (with 8 in the last decade), HCS routinely outperforms the state of South Carolina on standardized tests such as SC READY, End-of-Course Evaluations, and the WIN Career Readiness Test. HCS also routinely outperforms the state and the nation on the SAT.
HCS’s Class of 2024 earned $104 million in scholarships. Of those graduates, 72% planned to attend a 2-year or 4-year college or university, and 66% met eligibility requirements for scholarships supported by the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The District has a consolidated budget of $1.16 billion.
HCS enjoys partnerships with local higher education institutions, including Horry-Georgetown Technical College and Coastal Carolina University.

The salary for the successful candidate will be nationally competitive with a very attractive benefit package. The final salary and benefits package will be negotiated and determined based on proven experience, performance, and meeting the Horry County Board of Education’s criteria for the position.
