The purpose of this classification is to assist the Superintendent oversee the development and coordination of exceptional quality in curriculum and instructional programs for grades Pre-K through 12 and for adult education. Responsible for assisting in the supervision of the functions and activities of principals, directors, and coordinators.
Duties:
Assist the Superintendent formulate adequate philosophy of education acceptable to the Board of Trustees, professional staff, and the community.
Provide continuous curriculum development and improvements, and work with staff to develop instructional goals for various levels and curriculum areas.
Determine the need for instructional staff specialists and resource personnel, and direct, coordinate, and supervise their work.
Develop and direct adult education programs in the District.
Assist with the selection and assignment of instructional personnel including directors, coordinators, specialists, principals, and assistant principals.
Assist with the promotion and supervision of experimentation with curriculum organization, instructional techniques, and instructional materials.
Oversee the selection, procurement, and distribution of textbooks, library books, and media resources, instructional supplies, software, and equipment.
Manage all budgets within the Division of Instructional Services in accordance with District procurement policy.
Provide reports and materials to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees with summarized information relative to the instructional program.
Additonal Duties:
Support all non-traditional programs.
Prepare reports to the SDE and SACS as required.
Develop policy and programs for in-service education for professional staff.
Establish policies relative to promotion, transfer, and dismissal of personnel.
Coordinate instructional meetings with administrators and staff.
Participate in professional staff development programs.
Edit and publish curriculum bulletins, guides, courses of study, and pamphlets for use by instructional staff.
All other duties assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of state laws and regulations; Knowledge of District policy; Knowledge of state assessments; Knowledge of financial procedures, budget processes and management; Knowledge of personnel procedures; Knowledge of pre-K-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment; Knowledge of higher education curriculum; Knowledge of special education laws and procedures; Knowledge of Gifted and Talented laws and procedures; Knowledge of English as a Second Language; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to lead large and small group meetings; Ability to strategically plan, manipulate data, run reports, and affect change using data; Ability to negotiate difficult situations with parents, teachers, and administrators.
Use computers for data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, or custom applications.
Education: EdS with Superintendent Certification preferred
