SUMMARY:
Under limited direction, works with schools and departments across the district to ensure that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently; oversees the department of Administration; facilitates strategic planning efforts; and serves as the liaison with various state and local agencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Implements the policies of the Board of Education, and appropriate administrative regulations, at the District level.
· Provides leadership to ensure that initiatives related to administration are results-oriented and aligned with the District’s purpose and strategic goals.
· Coordinates the district’s long-range strategic plans for growth and development, school renewal planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
· Develops forecasts, reports, and recommendations that support the district’s short- and long-range planning decisions.
· Directs and facilitates Aiken Leads, the career pathway initiative for employees, as well as tracks the progress of employees within Aiken Leads.
· Monitors schools’ adherence to regulations concerning School Improvement Councils (SIC).
· Creates annual school and district enrollment forecasts and determines school allocations.
· Receives and acts on requests for student transfers, including those into and out of the school district.
· Develops the annual budget for the operation of the department and takes responsibility for the administration of the budget.
· Interprets all administrative district policies and programs to the faculties, students, and to the general public, and conveys to the Superintendent concerns of these groups.
· Interacts and communicates effectively with various groups such as administrators, teachers and staff, Board Members, State Department of Education personnel, elected officials, personnel of other school districts, and attorneys.
· Participates in the District’s public relations program to keep the public informed of the activities, needs and successes of the schools.
· Works in concert with the Chief Officer of Human Resources and Administration in collaborating with the district’s legal team.
· Attends all scheduled and called Board Meetings.
· Analyzes and monitors programs, projects, contracts, and grants.
· Tracks time-sensitive events and assignments to ensure timely completion.
· Coordinates, directs, and reviews the works of others, internal and/or external, in order to ensure that assigned tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
· Develops and ensures compliance with administrative regulations.
· Ensures compliance with federal, state, and school board policies and procedures.
· Ensures appropriate staffing in relation to student population growth, long-range and short-range personnel needs.
· Monitors legal actions, maintains appropriate files and apprises Chief Officer of Human Resources and Administration.
· Identifies and seeks solutions for problems on all administrative matters and when appropriate bring to the attention of the Chief Officer of Human Resources and Administration.
· Attends training seminars and conferences, and conducts research to stay current in trends in educational administration.
· Directs the development, maintenance, updating, and distribution of the District’s administrators’ Manual and School Board policies and ensure compliance with Board rules and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
· Facilitates professional development on the District Administrators’ Manual.
· Serves as liaison with neighborhood planning groups and other community organizations interested in school planning and development
· Within the scope of the SC Charter School regulations, serves as the liaison and provides oversight to district sponsored charter schools.
· Serves as the liaison with foreign exchange student organizations.
· Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Masters Degree required with a concentration in school administration and administrative certification. Minimum of three years of experience in school administration and/or district leadership. Must have demonstrated skills in leadership, organization, administration, and public relations.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Valid South Carolina Teaching License in one of the following areas:
