Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field. OR
Bachelor’s degree in any academic major and at least 5 years experience in management of school nutrition programs.

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision plans, organizes, directs and controls the School Food Service Program on a sound nutritional, financial and educational basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.
Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
Keeps abreast of all state and federal regulations pertaining to school food services.
Provides information to school officials and school food service managers concerning federal regulations as they apply to the School Lunch Program; confers with and advises school officials on problems arising with food service programs.
Recommends food service policies for district implementation.
Supervises operations of all district school lunch units to assure that the USDA required meal pattern is served.
Supervises school food service operations to assure that meals served are nutritionally adequate, standards of safety and sanitation are met, proper records are maintained in these areas, and operations comply with federal regulations; inspects and directs sanitation procedures in school cafeterias; checks for accountability and documentation of information on monthly school lunch reports.
Provides leadership in defining nutritional and educational objectives; evaluates all phases of the School Food Service Program, identifying needs and implementing program improvement; cooperates with other school personnel and educational agency teams in conducting program evaluation or accreditation studies.
Assists school food service managers in solving problems identified with storage and usage of purchased foods, supplies, and USDA commodities.
Provides leadership and training for district school food service personnel in cooperation with certification associations; maintains related records.
Consults with school food service managers to prepare tentative menus in accordance with required meal patterns.
Ensures the preparation, maintenance and/or processing of various records and reports; processes and compiles monthly school lunch reports; assists in the development of specifications and plans for new school cafeterias; maintains USDA commodities records, etc.
Conducts various bookkeeping duties such as maintaining inventory records, balancing checking account to general ledger, maintaining equipment inventory and depreciation schedule, preparing purchase orders, processing invoices for payment, processing returned checks for collection, maintaining a systematic set of financial transactions, preparing financial and income statements, preparing financial reports, etc.
Selects, requests and maintains equipment, tools, materials and supplies needed to conduct daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all equipment, tools, materials and supplies.
Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications necessary for the conducting daily activities.
Operates general office equipment.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory responsibility over all direct reports and indirect supervision of all food service staff. Responsible for the Food Service budget. Responsible for compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Responsible for materials and supplies budget(s) as assigned. Supervises certified and classified staff members as assigned.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.
Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee. Computer literacy required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.

School Nutrition Specialist or Certified Nutrition Specialist
Thorough working knowledge of all federal and state regulations pertaining to proper administration of a sound nutritional school food service program.
Knowledge of USDA required meal patterns for school lunch programs.
Knowledge of all safety and sanitation regulations, methods, and procedures related to K-12 food service.
Public school district food services experience.
Knowledge of effective methods of training, leadership and supervision.
Ability to prepare required financial and operational plans, records, reports and forms in an accurate and timely manner.
Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in daily activities.
Experience leading a team to collaborate around a shared vision and expectations.
Ability to resolve conflict, listen, and appropriately respond to concerns.
Knowledge of point of sale systems.
Evidence of ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with school personnel, finance team, senior leadership, parents, government agencies, and members of the community.
Experience in providing leadership relative to strategic planning and systemwide initiatives.
