Job Summary The Executive Director of Academics will provide leadership and vision in the ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review, and evaluation of the district’s curriculum and instructional services, federal programs, career and technical education services, assessment, research, and evaluation services. The Executive Director ensures that the district/school education objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence. The Executive Director of Academics reports to the Superintendent and participates as a member of the Superintendent’s administrative team. Other duties may be required and assigned by the Superintendent.
Essential Job Functions • Supervise all programs and personnel in the Curriculum & Instruction Department and effectively make recommendations to ensure optimum performance. • Monitor the development and implementation of federal, state, and local grants on a quarterly basis. • Plan and supervise all federal, state, and local instructional budgets. • Interview and recommend any new personnel in the Curriculum & Instruction Department. • Serve as instructional liaison for school and district administrators. • Communicate the vision and mission of the Cherokee County School District with all stakeholders, including business partnerships and the general community. • Support and communicate the expectations of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. • Systematically collect and review data for instructional planning and the implementation of appropriate initiatives. • Coordinate the review and revision of curriculum guides and instructional materials. • Provide support to administrators and directors in the supervision of effective instructional practices and the implementation of SC College & Career Ready Standards. • Provide support to teachers in effective instructional practices and the implementation of SC College & Career Ready Standards. • Support Priority and Focus Schools. • Provide systematic, effective professional development. • Supervise and support District Literacy Coaches and the State Read to Succeed initiative. • Develop and supervise Special Area schedules. • Supervise and support Elementary Gifted and Talented Programs, including curriculum development and implementation. • Supervise all local, state, and federal programs. • Supervise and support the ESOL Program, K-12. • Coordinate the adoption of instructional materials, K-12. • Respond to parent concerns in a professional manner. • Prepare and create the School Instructional Calendar and District Calendars. • Process Planning and Implementation of District Strategic Plan and AdvancED Accreditation. • Represent the school district in meetings and conferences related to curriculum and instruction, assessment, and technology. • Report periodically to the board on all curriculum, instruction, and assessment matters as the superintendent requires. • Encourage ethical practices of teachers. • Recommend a budget to the Superintendent to meet the objectives of Curriculum and Instruction and operate within the budget • Promote and participate in the District public relations, including Curriculum and Instruction department webpage. • Establish an open line of communication with the community. • Perform any other duties assigned by the superintendent.
Additional Responsibilities • Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing the district’s mission. • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. • Respond in an efficient and timely manner to directives, tasks, or projects assigned by the superintendent and deputy superintendent.
Qualifications: 1. South Carolina Elementary or Secondary Principal or Superintendent Certification 2. Masters Degree 3. Previous experience as a Principal 4. Must function effectively as a member of the administrative team 5. Must possess outstanding skills in both verbal and written communications
