JOB TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision, provides the leadership and management skills necessary to maximize the efforts of teachers and students in an environment, which is conducive to educational enhancement, growth and achievement. Supervises and coordinates the work of all professional, paraprofessional, administrative and non-professional personnel; ensures subordinates' adherence to District policies, regulations and goals. Reports to the Superintendent.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervises all professional, para-professional, administrative and non-professional staff members; assigns work loads and establishes work schedules; directs and supervises duties of assigned staff. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; and recommending the promotion, transfer, discipline and discharge of employees as appropriate.
Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness, accuracy and adherence to District policies; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
Plans, evaluates and recommends school-wide programs, policies, goals and objectives.
Ensures that all School Board and administrative policies are effectively explained and implemented.
Supervises, reviews and evaluates the instructional program; observes classroom environment and makes recommendations for improvement in instruction and class management as appropriate. Conducts a program of in-service education for assigned personnel.
Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, complying with due process and rights of students. Attends disciplinary hearings as required.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints from teachers, students and parents. Works to resolve administrative, instructional and behavioral problems.
Works with authorized personnel in the modification and utilization of the building, physical facilities and school grounds. Supervises building custodial care.
Develops and controls the school budget; approves expenditures. Maintains and controls various local funds generated by student activities. Requisitions and maintains adequate supplies and equipment.
Supervises school athletic and extracurricular programming.
Attends special events and athletic events.
Supervises the preparation and maintenance of all such records and reports as are required by law, Board policies and administrative directives.
Reviews, approves, helps in planning and exercises ultimate supervision over all school programs, special events and publications.
Organizes and administers the public relations program for assigned school.
Enforces policies and procedures designed to protect the safety and welfare of students and staff while on campus.
Keeps abreast of developments and innovations in the profession and ensures that staff members remain current as well.
Keeps the Superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the Superintendent's accountability.
Conducts meetings of the staff and attends District meetings as necessary.
Maintains effective relationships with students and parents.
Performs computer data entry to record and retrieve various information and to prepare reports and correspondence.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including budget documents, financial reports, billing invoices, testing data, staff reports, master schedule, faculty manual, strategic plans, exam schedules, calendars, job applications, performance appraisals, staff development reports, requisitions, accreditation reports, inspection reports, technical and professional reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, professional journals, textbooks and other curriculum materials, etc.
Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, two-way radio, telephone, calculator, etc.
Uses clerical, copier and computer supplies.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Superintendent, other District administrators, subordinates, other school administrators and staff members, parents, students, Board members, law enforcement personnel, and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid South Carolina Certification as a Secondary Principal / Supervisor
Three years of successful experience as a school principal or assistant principal
Proven track record of providing a safe, orderly school climate
Achieving academic success for all students, maintaining staff collegiality and teamwork
