Under limited supervision, fosters the success of all students by facilitating a shared vision of personal excellence and academic achievement. Establishes and promotes high standards for academic performance and responsibility for behavior. Provides instructional and organizational leadership for school staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program that is administered in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, District policies, and school procedures.
Education:
Master’s Degree or higher in Educational Administration
Certification/License:
Must possess a South Carolina Tier 1 or Tier 2 Principal certification and certification in an area
appropriate for the grade level of the position.
Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license or government-issued picture ID.
Work Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an Assistant Principal; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Advanced management, organizational, human relations, communications, and interpersonal skills.
Extensive knowledge of the standards, state/federal laws, regulations, Board policies, and District procedures related to educational programs, including general and special education.
Knowledge of District policies and procedures that pertain to the specific responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge of District/school safety and security procedures.
Knowledge in the development, planning, organization, implementation, and management of effective instructional programs and practices designed to meet educational objectives and requirements.
Knowledge of the principles of finance, accounting, and management related to the budgetary, planning, and the financial aspects of school budgets.
Extensive knowledge in the application of classroom instruction and teaching; knowledge of techniques used in motivating students and maintaining appropriate behavior. Extensive knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems.
Proficient knowledge and use of computer applications relevant to the position
Ability to develop and maintain effective communication with students, school and District employees, supervisors, media representatives, attorneys, and the general public in both oral and written form. Ability to make presentations to large groups, including the public and Board of Trustees.
Ability to apply judgment and complex logic in defining problems, collecting information, and drawing valid conclusions.
Ability to maintain high standards of organization, record-keeping, and accuracy in exercising duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Develops, implements, and evaluates clear and effective procedures for the operation and functioning of the assigned school consistent with the District’s philosophy, mission, values, and goals.
Utilizes various data including, but not limited to, achievement scores, grades, formal assessment results, summative assessment results, student discipline reports, perception surveys, etc., to create a school-wide approach to raising achievement and creating a positive school climate.
Promotes the development of specific, measurable goals for student achievement.
Selects, inducts, supports, evaluates, and retains high-quality instructional and support staff.
Makes recommendations regarding the assignment, promotion, transfer, and dismissal of assigned personnel.
Develops procedures for coaching and evaluating staff members regarding individual and group performance. Promotes effective teacher collaboration, professional learning, and instructional best practices in the classroom.
Supervises and participates in the training, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of records for the South Carolina Department of Education teacher evaluation program.
Supervises and participates in the training, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of records for school support staff.
Prepares a school budget under the direction of the District finance office; keeps accurate records related to the school’s receipt and disbursement of fiscal resources. Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests and monitors the expenditure of funds.
Establishes and administers rules and procedures pertaining to the welfare and management of students. Immediately notifies the appropriate personnel, authorities, and/or agencies when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse and/or neglect, medical, or social conditions that require intervention.
Supervises/delegates the implementation of required grading policies and regulations in monitoring and evaluating student progress. Supervises/delegates the implementation of academic record-keeping, discipline, and attendance systems with high standards that support the values and mission of the District and school.
Supervises/delegates the administration of various types of assessments to monitor students’ progress, as required by District, state, and school testing policies/procedures.
Encourages students to take responsibility for their behavior. Implements strategies to encourage high morale among staff and students. Develops and implements policies and/or rules governing student life, conduct, and behavior in a fair and equitable manner.
Establishes a professional rapport with students and staff that fosters their respect.
Displays and maintains the highest standards for ethical and professional behavior while working with students, parents, school personnel, community members, and other parties.
Serves as a role model for others, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
Adheres to the highest level of confidentiality concerning sensitive matters, students, and staff.
Ensures a safe and orderly climate that includes effective building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures.
Maintains a valid SC teacher/Principal certificate. Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work.
Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing education-related issues of mutual interest with others in the field, etc.
Serves as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life. Presents a positive image of Richland School District Two at all times.
Demonstrates prompt, regular attendance and is available to work in person during normal business hours, eLearning settings, extra-curricular activities, and after-hours events.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
