Principal of Gateway Elementary School

About the School:
Gateway Elementary School, located in the heart of Travelers Rest in northwest Greenville County, serves approximately 629 students and provides a safe, caring, and academically challenging environment where “Success Begins Here.” Built in 1982 to support the area’s growth, the school reflects its namesake as the “Gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains.”
The school is committed to developing world-class skills in every student through data-driven instruction, strong professional development, and research-based practices, including the Science of Reading. Teachers collaborate regularly to monitor student progress and tailor instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
Gateway emphasizes hands-on, student-centered learning through STEAM integration, small-group instruction, and innovative teaching strategies. The school also prioritizes social-emotional growth through programs like the Ron Clark House System and a strong focus on community involvement. Family and community partnerships are central to Gateway’s mission, with students and staff actively engaged in service projects and collaborations with local organizations, including colleges, nonprofits, and community agencies. For the 2024–2025 school year, Gateway received an Excellent school report card rating and earned the Palmetto Gold Award for student achievement.

Serves as the administrative head of the school and, as such, has responsibility for coordination of the total resources of the school and the general supervision of all school activities, safety, and welfare. (PS 3)
Assigns all professional staff within the building in accordance with their certification and competency. (PS 3)
Supports a strong, positive school culture and climate focused on student social/emotional growth and development matched with high expectations. (PS 4)
Creates, develops, and sustains relationships that result in active student engagement in the learning process. (PS 4)

A Successful Gateway Elementary Principal:
Provides strong leadership for the instructional program.
Develops and successfully implements a comprehensive special education plan that provides a continuum of services.
Is active in the community working to secure partnerships with businesses and groups to enhance the experiences of the school.
Is skilled in increasing student achievement with diverse student learner groups.
Education and Experience Required:
A minimum earned Master's Degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
Valid South Carolina elementary or secondary principal's certificate
Three to five years of teaching and administrative/supervisory experience.
BUILDING LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE/SUPERVISORY SALARY SCHEDULE (BUILDG) - 245 DAYS Grade A7 ( 90,129 - 140,587 ) Placement on salary schedule includes several factors to include experience.
